This is a GIMP scripting tutorial written by a beginner for beginners. I'm completely new to the subject, but hopefully what I've learned will help you too.
It's the first of two tutorials on GIMP scripting. In this lesson, we won't actually write a script, but I'll walk you through the process of using GIMP's Procedure Browser and Script-Fu Console to create a simple image, add a layer, and then fill the layer with color.
In the follow-up tutorial, we'll build on what we've learned & put the information into a usable script.
Please forgive me for errors that I make in regard to matters of programming. Since I'm not a programmer, I probably won't use the correct terms nor explain everything correctly. However, I hope what I've prepared opens up more of GIMP's awesome power to you.
There is nothing to download from here. Just click on the link below and you will be taken to gimpdome.com, where you can view the tutorial in its entirety.
Well, scripting is a pretty involved thing. I can't really give you a quick explanation. However, if you have a particular spot that's giving you trouble, let me know and I'll do my best to explain it to you.
just to let you know, I had no clue how to work this stuff AT ALL. But now it makes all sense. And it makes me feel stupid not knowing it before XD. Hehe, now I want to go make some avatar scripts. hehe.
These can be saved and be used on the menu, correct?
Don't feel stupid about not understanding it.....I'm just learning it myself.....and I don't consider myself stewpid! Strange, but not stoopeed! LOL. At any rate, what we've done so far can't really do too much because they're not real scripts. But, it's the first stepping stone. Hopefully, in the next tutorial we'll create an actual script.
