Here's my tutorial on selectively removing the color of an image in GIMP. Nothing sophisticated here, but a very neat technique!

Great tutorial! I always wondered how to remove it selectively... I wasn't smart enough to figure it out on my own... haha. But anyway, this is awesome, I'll definitely use it :D

Glad you like it. However, you might not want to read my other tutorials if you don't like long, drawn out directions....I tend to make sure, there are no questions left unanswered by the time I'm finished.....which translates into 'long, drawn out directions!' :hug:

Thank you so much for doing this! Before I was duplicating the layer and then erasing all but the part of the image I wanted to stay colored. I made sure that layer had transparency and then when I merged it down the colored part would override the desaturated background layer. This seems like it will be much easier!

hey fence!

I like to do it a different way using a Layer Mask to make certain parts of the colored layer invisible

however yours looks to work the same way
